I
haven't
seen
my
mom
for
the
past
5
years.
She
works
as
a
nurse
in
the
US.
We
email
or
chat
online
whenever
we
have
the
chance
but
I
wish
we
can
savor
the
convenience
of
phonecalls.
It's
unfortunate
that
telecommunication
companies
charge
so
much
for
a
minute.
We
had
no
choice
but
to
limit
the
talk-time.
It
became
a
burden
when
I
wanted
to
update
my
mom
with
college
life
and
I
can't
talk
for
long.
One
day,
a
friend,
who
is
a
known
internet
savvy
ranted
about
her
newly-discovered
software
-
Buzzfon
P2P.
Having
no
knowledge
whatsoever
about
VoIP
(Voice
over
Internet
Protocol),
I
was
skeptical
on
downloading
it
because
I
heard
about
viruses
and
spywares
that
can
wreck
havoc
on
computers.
I
had
to
read
the
information
about
Buzzfon
to
make
sure
it's
safe
to
download.
I
talked
to
their
Live
Customer
support
representative
(who
are
very
accomodating,
by
the
way)
regarding
the
safety
and
reliability
of
the
software.
After
all
the
moments
of
hesitation,
I
finally
decided
to
give
it
a
go
and
asked
my
mom
to
download
it
too.
I
was
very
impressed
with
Buzzfon
P2P.
Aside
from
the
fact
that
it
takes
little
space
from
my
computer,
the
sound
quality
is
crystal
clear!
It's
like
talking
to
my
mom
next
door.
Indeed,
Buzzfon
is
one
of
VoIP's
pride!

The
PC-to-to-PC
Internet
phone
is
a
remnant
of
early
VoIP
offerings.
VoIP
services
like
PC-to-Phone
and
Phone-to-Phone
are
flourishing
nowadays
but
people
still
use
this
type
because
it's
FREE
and
FREE
indeed!
This
basic
VoIP
type
operates
using
a
software
program
which
you
will
need
to
install
and
run
online.
It
communicates
using
the
IP
(Internet
Protocol)
of
your
computer
connected
with
a
dial-up
or
broadband
internet.
Then,
with
a
sound
card
and
your
microphone
headset
ready,
you
will
be
able
to
call
anywhere
in
the
world
provided
that
the
same
softclient
is
used.
The
major
drawback
of
the
PC-to-PC
is
that,
you
will
need
to
go
online
to
use
it,
since
you
are
communicating
via
IP.
This
is
inconvenient
to
the
users,
that's
why
many
additional
services
are
being
offered
by
several
VoIP
companies.
The
fact
that
it
is
also
limited
to
only
those
who
have
the
same
software
might
make
this
a
poor
selection
for
your
communication
needs.

PALTALK
Advertising
galore!
RevEng
Pros:
Good
audio
and
video
quality.
Cons:
Popup
ads
during
start
and
exit,
doesn't
actually
exit
(leaves
an
icon
in
the
system
tray),
banner
ads
at
all
times,
VERY
expensive
server
rentals,
but
most
of
all,
includes
MyBar
(spyware)
by
default!
SKYPE
Insanely
Great
IP-telephony
Jimoksvold
Pros:
If
you
have
a
decent
broadband
then
this
is
for
you.
I
myself
have
10Mbit/s
Ethernet
(T3)
at
home
and
my
first
conversation
was
from
Oslo
to
Tokyo.
Sound
quality
was
the
best
ever.
I
used
Skype
out
to
book
a
hotel
room
in
Germany
and
it
worked
just
fine.
I
saved
at
least
5
EUROs
on
that
call
alone
:-)
If
you
and
your
girlfriend
has
good
broadband
then
this
is
THE
solution
to
stay
connected
-
Period.
Skype
out
works
too,
but
the
sound
is
just
like
ordinary
telephone
calls
at
best.
Worth
a
try
at
10
EUROs
calltime
prepaid.
Cons:
It
does
need
like
300
k
of
bitstream
to
work
well
in
Windows
-
Both
directions
that
is
-
A
real
bandwidth
hog
:-)
-
Anything
less
and
things
don't
work
so
well.
Skype
for
Linux
is
still
tricky
but
help
is
under
way.
YAHOO
MESSENGER
Yahoo!
Great
chat
client.
Mrsone
Pros:
The
interface
is
very
nice,
and
very
aesthetically
pleasing.
This
IM
client
allows
individual
stealth
settings,
so
if
the
occasion
should
ever
happen,
and
you
wanted
to
avoid
a
particular
user,
you
could
do
so.
The
IMvironments
are
nice,
and
you
can
get
some
interesting
ones.
The
avatars
are
very
nice,
and
extremely
customizable.
Cons:
The
only
gripe
I
have
about
this
is
that
I
wish
Yahoo
would
offer
a
direct
download
of
the
install
file.
Other
than
that,
this
messenger
is
probably
the
best
of
the
big
three
now.
MSN
MESSENGER
Still
my
favorite
Instant
Messenger
client
Devon_Spencer
Pros:
Every
version
always
get's
better.
It
now
has
a
new
interface,
quote
features,
winks,
and
other
new
features.
Cons:
None
that
I
have
found.
Except
I
would
like
a
feature
that
allows
you
to
put
in
custom
names
for
contacts.
BUZZFON
P2P
Its
a
great
calling
software
for
pc
to
pc
calls
but
I'm
still
waiting
if
the
final
release
is
better.
Whois
Well,
I
tried
it
using
dial
up
and
getting
my
friend
to
use
it
too
was
a
good
move.
We
talked
for
hours
and
there
were
no
delays..no
disruptions..just
like
they
said..the
service
is
great
so
kudos
guys..but
still..I
wonder
if
the
next
release
which
costs
$5.00/month
by
the
way
which
can
have
you
call
pc
to
anywhere
is
just
as
good..I'll
post
again
if
its
a
stinker..!
